Dear Colleagues,
I look forward to seeing you all at the Broome Hospital
Friday 20/06/14 at 0800 for 0830.
Our collaborative approach includes midwives, nurses, physiotherapists and doctors of various capacity and learning needs. Our aim is to enable exchange of ideas and skills, break down professional silos and encourage a team ethos.
We aim to make our midwife attendees WACHS assessment ready.
WACHS Basic Obstetric US teaching for midwives includes
1. Basic physics and knobology, understanding one’s machine
2. Scanning techniques and interpretation of images
3. How to scan for Presentation, viability, placental localization, amniotic fluid
POC US is a logical extension of our examining hands and eyes. We are not in competition with the hospital US dept. Very important not to over reach and present ourselves as something we are not. Having said that there are an increasing number of obstetric doctors whether they be procedural GPs or specialists who are rapidly expanding their scope of US practice. This expansion is supported by the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and the Rural Doctors Association. Ongoing development requires training at educational events and ongoing opportunities to do supervised scanning on a regular basis to consolidate skills.
RDA/ACRRM Advanced Point of Care Obstetric US teaching includes
- First trimester US, dating, vaginal probe
- Late pregnancy US, biometry, foetal wellbeing
- Labour US
- Innovation session
